CBRNE Ltd is pleased to advise that it is part of a winning consortium called Project PROACTIVE – (PReparedness against CBRNE threats through cOmmon Approaches between security praCTItioners and the VulnerablE civil society”). It is addressing the European Union Horizon 2020 research topic “SU-FCT01-2018-2019: Human factors, and social, societal, and organisational aspects to solve issues in fighting against crime and terrorism”.
The project follows CBRNE Ltd’s participation in the EU Framework Programme 7’s Projects EDEN and PRACTICE which were both based on CBRNE scenarios. Specifically, lessons learnt from Exercise ARDEN (Project PRACTICE) in Birmingham (see photo) prompted many of the proposed scenarios that are due to be addressed in Project PROACTIVE.
The Kick off Meeting was on Tuesday 14th May in Paris at the offices of the Coordinator: Union Internationale des Chemins de Fer (International Union of Railways). The goal of Project PROACTIVE is to enhance societal CBRNE preparedness by increasing first responder’s ability to effectively manage large, diverse groups of people in a CBRNE incident. This will be accomplished by fostering common approaches between European safety and security practitioners, in particular Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs) and CBRNE First Responders. These are to be evaluated and validated against the needs and requirements of the civil society, especially considering vulnerable groups of citizens. CBRNE Ltd is responsible for overseeing the three demonstrations in Rieti (Italy), Dortmund (Germany) and Jozefow (Poland). CBRNE Ltd is looking for active participation by organisations responsible for vulnerable groups and would be interested to speak to any such stakeholder for possible active participation in the project. In the meantime CBRNE Ltd, as part of Project ENTRAP (Enhanced Neutralisation of explosive Threats Reaching Across the Plot), is half way though the 3 year project to identify processes, procedures and technology to interrupt the efforts of a terrorist explosive plot from inception to post event. The project is coordinated by the Swedish Defence Research Agency (FOI) and addresses the H2020 SEC-2016-2017-1 Topic. The overall aim is to understand and evaluate the effectiveness of emerging and future technical capabilities compared to current available counter tools used to prevent and avert bomb attacks. The proposed research aims to assess the effectiveness of counter-tools and their combination across the timeline. https://www.entrap-h2020.eu/en
CBRNE Ltd is also 12 months into a 36 month project called MAGNETO (Multimedia Analysis and Correlation Engine for Organised Crime Prevention and Investigation). The project is addressing H2020 SEC-12-FCT-2016-2017 – Technologies for prevention, investigation, and mitigation in the context of fight against crime and terrorism. The Coordinator is the Institute of Communication and Computer Systems (ICCS) from Greece. The Project addresses the significant needs of law enforcement agencies (LEAs) in their fight against terrorism and organised crime, related to the massive volumes, heterogeneity and fragmentation of the data that officers have to analyse for the prevention, investigation and prosecution of criminal offences. http://www.magneto-h2020.eu/
