Horizon Europe Project ULTIMATE
Project ULTIMATE:
Multi-Level Trustworthiness to Improve the Adoption of hybrid Artificial Intelligence
Project ULTIMATE developed industrial-grade hybrid AI systems with enhanced trustworthiness, focusing on validity, explainability, and ethics to address the limitations of existing AI models in industrial settings. By integrating model-based and data-driven AI approaches, ULTIMATE sought to improve shopfloor efficiency, reduce operational costs, and foster human-machine collaboration in sectors such as robotics (logistics) and space (satellite failure detection). The project combined innovative frameworks, real-world use cases, and collaboration among industrial stakeholders, academic institutions, and SMEs to drive the adoption of hybrid AI technologies.
CBRNE Ltd played a significant role in the project by providing its proprietary Ethical Risk Assessment (ERA) and Misuse Risk Assessment (MRA) tools. These tools facilitate the evaluation of ethical and misuse risks throughout the project lifecycle, offering regulatory and ethical guidance to hybrid AI developers. CBRNE also supported the development of a Value Sensitive Design (VSD) framework to assess Perceived Technical Trustworthiness (PTT) and Perceived Ethical Trustworthiness (PET) for hybrid AI systems. Additionally, the company conducted ethical and societal impact assessments to ensure the responsible governance of hybrid AI solutions, drawing from EU-level regulations such as the EU AI Act and GDPR, as well as international guidelines.
