FP7 Project D-Box
Project D-BOX:
Demining tool-BOX for humanitarian clearing of large-scale area from anti-personal landmines and cluster munitions
The D-BOX project addressed the pressing issue of landmines and cluster munitions that continue to pose significant threats to civilians long after conflicts have ended. Through the development of an innovative, comprehensive “smart” toolbox, the project provided stakeholders with tailored tools, methods, and procedures for all stages of demining activities&emdash;from mission preparation to mine elimination. The toolbox incorporated human and ethical considerations, advanced technologies for mapping and neutralisation, and educational tools, ensuring practical, affordable, and user-friendly solutions adaptable to diverse scenarios. Demonstrations were conducted to evaluate the toolbox’s effectiveness and provide a roadmap for future development and implementation.
CBRNE Ltd played an important role in the project by leading the development of ethical and human-focused aspects. It prepared and delivered key deliverables, including Cultural Guidelines, Error Reduction Methodology. These contributions ensured that demining operations adhered to human, societal, and cultural needs while addressing privacy and data protection concerns. Additionally, CBRNE Ltd facilitated the engagement of end users through the End User Platform, conducted consultations, and actively participated in demonstrations in Poland and Italy, where it gathered user feedback to refine the tools and methodologies.
